SELLING ON EBAY

How to create an eBay listing from photos

Good photos give buyers a useful first look. The listing still needs the details a photo cannot show.

Worked example: a PS5 game

Real photo of a Horizon Forbidden West PS5 Launch Edition game case
Real item photo used in the homepage sample. The cover identifies the edition, but does not show the disc or verify its condition.

The cover says Horizon Forbidden West, PS5, Launch Edition. A suitable draft title is “Horizon Forbidden West PS5 Launch Edition.” Before listing, photograph the disc and check that it is included.

Correcting an overconfident draft

Illustrative correction: if a draft says “Complete, tested and working,” but you have only photographed the case, remove that claim. Add the actual contents and test result after checking them. Do not substitute an assumed condition for an inspection.

If recognition selects PS4 instead of PS5, correct the platform and title, then refresh comparisons for the corrected edition. Manual corrections do not use a recognition credit.

1. Photograph the item you are actually selling

Show the front, back, model label, included accessories and any damage. Use clear light and an uncluttered background. Check that personal information is not visible. For a game, photograph the case and disc rather than relying on the cover alone.

2. Check the identification

Confirm the model, edition and brand against the label. Similar-looking items can have different values. In PicListed, upload your photos and choose Recognize item. If the result is wrong, choose Incorrect item? Correct it to edit the title, brand or model without another recognition credit.

3. Write down what the photo cannot prove

Add what is included, whether you tested the item, and any wear or faults. Do not claim authenticity, working condition or a complete set unless you have checked it. Review the suggested description and remove anything you cannot confirm.

4. Choose a price and shipping terms

Compare the same model and condition. Current asking prices show what sellers want; completed sales provide different evidence. Account for shipping and selling fees before deciding what you want to receive. Weigh the packed item and check your shipping and return settings.

5. Review before publishing

Check the title, category, item specifics, condition, contents, price, shipping and returns. Connect your eBay account from My account, then review and approve the listing. Connecting your account alone does not publish anything.

What happens when you reopen a draft?

The saved recognition and description can be reused. Refreshing eBay price comparisons does not spend a recognition credit. Choose Regenerate only when you want a new analysis; a successful regeneration uses one credit. Changed recognition inputs may require a new analysis.
